Album Review by Black Rose Acoustic

"Formed in 2008 by lead vocalist and fiddler Glen Harrell, Volume Five has released their fifth album Voices on Mountain Fever Records. Volume Five was nominated for two IBMA awards in 2014 for Emerging Artist of the Year and Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year. Glen Harrell’s vocals and his accompanying band mates combine for tightknit playing on every one of the twelve songs on this latest release. Although a traditional band, their song selection draws from a variety of contemporary writers. I especially liked “King of California,” “Crazy Night” and “Satan’s Ridge.” Their guitarist Colby Laney wrote the only original tune on the album, a lively instrumental--“Sam’s Gap.” With endorsements from Rhonda Vincent (who supplied guest vocals on one track) and Balsam Ridge vocalist Buddy Melton, this band has some enthusiastic admirers. I’m now one of them." - Black Rose Acoustic
